Transitioned Puppies

Not every Courage Service Dog in training is capable of continuing on to be placed with a recipient.  We carefully select all our puppies based on their 8 week old  personalities and aptitude.  This helps us bring the puppies best suited for service work into our program.  Even so, as the puppies grow and develop their aptitude and personalities may change.

Around the age of 18 months, our dogs are evaluated for service work based on their developed personalities.  Some dogs are just independent by nature and prefer to spend some of their time on their own exploring the world.  When one of our dogs needs to move on from service work, they are placed in a carefully selected transition home.   These homes will allow these dogs to live their life in the happiest way possible.  Courage Service Dogs contracts with these transition homes to make sure they are providing a healthy home for our dogs.  If the transition home doesn't work out, we retain the right to have the dog returned directly to us for new placement.

Because our puppies are highly trained, they are often qualified to continue work that better fits them.  This may include therapy dog work or a job as an emotional support dog.

Above all, we want our dogs to be happy and have the healthiest life possible!
