Courage Service Dogs MissionCourage Service Dogs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2013. Our mission is to provide canine assisted support to first responders seeking treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions.
Our program partners with local mental health clinicians by providing service dogs to use in therapeutic settings. This includes both individual and group therapy sessions. Unlike therapy dogs, our service dogs are specially trained to provide relief using service dog tasks. Some of these tasks are dissociation/flashback interruption using a verbal command, deep-pressure therapy, emotional deregulation interruption using non-verbal commands, light regulation and more. Our puppies in training are placed in permanent foster homes and are transported to and from their work destinations. Located in Minneapolis, MN, we seek to give back to our local heroes who have sacrificed their time, health and well-being to keep us safe. We currently serve the Twin Cities metropolitan area. |
